Chicago Bulls @ Detroit Pistons | 1991 Playoffs | ECF Game 4: Bad Boys are history
They ended years of frustration. They ended the Detroit Pistons’ two-year reign as champions. And now, the Chicago Bulls can begin thinking about playing in the NBA finals for the first time. Making it look easy, the Bulls completed a four-game sweep of the Pistons with a 115-94 victory today at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Chicago dominated the Eastern Conference finals from start to finish, brushing aside the proud Pistons as if they were a nuisance instead of the defending champions. “To say that this is unexpected, to sweep this team, is an understatement,” said Phil Jackson, Chicago’s coach. “But after losing to this team for three years, I think we deserve a shot.” The Pistons tried physical play, lineup changes and anything else they could think of to avoid being dethroned at home. None of it worked. The Bulls were too determined, too poised and too good to be denied. And now, Michael Jordan (29 points on 11-for-17 shooting along with nine rebounds, nine assists) and the Bulls have an impressive 11-1 record in the playoffs. “We didn’t want it any other way,” said Jordan, who added more luster to his extraordinary seven-year career by reaching the NBA finals for the first time. “We wanted to beat Detroit. That way, there wouldn’t be any tarnish to what we accomplished. We surprised a lot of people, and we surprised ourselves. We didn’t feel we could sweep this team, but we knew we could beat them. We had to accept every beating, every push and every elbow they gave …

Detroit Pistons @ Chicago Bulls | 1991 Playoffs | ECF Game 2: Jordan MVP, leads Bulls to victory
The Detroit Pistons are used to frustrating other teams with their defense. Now the Chicago Bulls are doing it to them. The Pistons are used to establishing early momentum in a playoff series. Now the Bulls have done it to them. Chicago took another step toward reaching the National Basketball Association championship series with tonight’s 105-97 victory over Detroit at Chicago Stadium. The Bulls lead the four-of-seven-game series, 2-0, with Game 3 to be played Saturday afternoon in Auburn Hills, Mich. After the beating they suffered tonight, the Pistons look as if they can use three days’ rest. Chicago’s tenacious defense harassed the Pistons into turnovers, forced them to take bad shots, and made most trips downcourt about as pleasant as a trip to the dentist. No NBA team has won a four-of-seven-game series after falling behind, 2-0, since 1977. But to avoid being dethroned as two-time champions, that is exactly what the Pistons must do. “They took us out of our offense and dominated in every phase,” said Pistons Coach Chuck Daly. “Right now, they look hungrier than we are. I was surprised the score ended up that close because they dominated.” Michael Jordan (35 points on 10-for-18 shooting, 7 assists) and Scottie Pippen (21 points, 6-for-15 from the field, 10 rebounds) led a balanced Bulls attack. Jordan scored 27 points in the second half, but his teammates set the tone early by making Detroit pay for double-teaming Jordan. Nothing worked for Daly. He started Tree …
Chicago Bulls @ Orlando Magic | 1996 Playoffs | ECF Game 4: Jordan seals the sweep
His partners in the ratings game desperately wanted to salvage some pride on their home floor, but Michael Jordan was even more determined to have at least three days off. He was willing to work every angle, possible and impossible, to secure them. The baseline. The wing. Straight on from 15 feet. Off one foot or off the glass, he kept hitting net and he kept fading away — farther and farther — until Anfernee Hardaway, Shaquille O’Neal and their once-potent basketball team resembled minuscule blips from high atop the ridge. The Chicago Bulls were much closer to the pinnacle than the Orlando Magic was today because Jordan reached the climax of a yearlong vindication process by backpacking his team to a 106-101 victory in Game 4 and a sweep of the Eastern Conference finals. “Judging from the look in Michael’s eyes, we could have rode him all day today,” forward Scottie Pippen said. “I know I rode him. We all did. What’s new?” With a menacing glare attached to nearly every basket he made, Jordan erupted for 45 points, wagged his tongue, kicked up his left foot ever so slightly and walked out of Orlando Arena with a Cuban cigar tucked snugly in his blazer pocket. He made 16 of 23 shots and 10 of 14 free throws and performed the same riveting theater on the floor that carried Chicago to its last finals, in 1993, the last time the Bulls were this close to a championship. They overcame a 56-47 halftime deficit in the final seconds of the third quarter and then let Jordan do …

Chicago Bulls @ New York Knicks | Jan 9, 1998: Jordan with 44 points [ Final Cut ]
It was the way Michael Jordan kept hitting his shots as the Knicks kept hitting flesh. And it was obvious that no matter what the circumstances, the color of this rivalry had not faded without Patrick Ewing. The evidence spilled onto the floor at Madison Square Garden last night as each Knick who was fed up with the prickly Dennis Rodman shoved, tripped or barked at him. Pick one, Larry Johnson, John Starks or Charles Oakley. The trio displayed the kind of anger and aggression that provided the only chance the Knicks had to beat Jordan. And yet, just as Jordan has done throughout his career, he ruined the best group effort by the Knicks, gathering a remarkable 44 points as the Bulls won, 90-89. “I thought we had tremendous effort,” Knicks Coach Jeff Van Gundy said. “We were beaten by a championship-caliber team, by the greatest player ever probably. We had our opportunities.” The victory was not assured until Chris Childs missed a 3-pointer just before the buzzer as the Knicks declined to call a timeout to set up a final play. “I would have gone inside, but I didn’t think I would have gotten the call,” Childs said. “I thought the shot I took was good. It just didn’t go in this time.” Suddenly, the additions the Knicks have made to surround Ewing with complementary players were on the spot against Chicago last night. More attention was on Houston, though. He had Jordan, but Jordan got the best of him in the second half. “I don’t think I got the job done in the second half …
